About this deal

The story is a classic but no less wonderful tale of the value of life and how humans often think animals less. As usual in Roald Dahl's stories, they are being taught the error of their ways - and in a pretty funny way too. This is one of his shorter stories but has immediately become one of my favourites! Pequeño cuentito de la mano de Dahl, donde nuevamente vemos sus mismos ingredientes: adultos malos, algún niño o niña que hace justicia y un grupo de animalitos que ayudan.

This story would be a perfect fantasy story about animal rights. The main character lives next door to a family that loves to hunt birds. She doesn't like that they are hurting animals, so she tries to talk them out of it, but they only laugh at her. Then one day the family goes too far and kills a ton of birds. This makes the main character angry and when she is angry her finger starts to tingle. She didn't mean to turn her magic finger on the family, but when the little girl is angry her Magic Finger takes over. It turned the family into birds! This forces them to live in a nest, eat nonhuman food and more. Then more problems keep arising... Use your magic touch and surroundings to take out your foes! Defeat your enemies by throwing other enemies! Use explosive barrels to make a big impact! Sent your adversaries off the platform into the deep!

HOW TO DO IT But . . . but . . . but . . .' cried Mrs Gregg, going purple in the face. 'My dear man, what's happened to you?' `What's happened to both of us, you mean!' shouted Mr Gregg. It was Mrs Gregg's turn now to jump out of bed. She ran to look at herself in the glass. But she was not tall enough to see into it. She was even smaller than Mr Gregg, and she, too, had got wings instead of arms. `Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!' sobbed Mrs Gregg. `This is witches' work!' cried Mr Gregg. And both of them started running around the room, flapping their wings. A minute later Philip and William burst in. The same thing had happened to them. They had wings and no arms. And they were really tiny. They were about as big as robins. `Mama! Mama! Mama!' chirruped Philip. `Look, Mama, we can fly!' And they flew up into the air. `Come down at once!' said Mrs Gregg. `You're much too high!' But before she could say another word, Philip and William had flown right out the window. 25

The Greggs flew down and sat on the wall `A nest!' they said. 'Can we do that?' near the door. Mrs Gregg began to cry. 'We must do it,' said Mr Gregg. 'We've got to have somewhere to sleep. Follow me.' `Oh, dear! Oh, dear!' she sobbed. 'They have ta.ken our house. What shall we do? We have no place to go!' Even the boys began to cry a bit now. `We will be eaten by cats and foxes in the They flew off to a tall tree, and right at the night!' said Philip. top of it Mr Gregg chose the place for the nest. `I want to sleep in my own bed!' said William. 31 `Now then,' said Mr Gregg. 'It isn't any good crying. That won't help us. Shall I tell you what we arc going to do?' `What?' they said. Mr Gregg looked at them and smiled. 'We are going to build a nest.' 30The Magic Finger study guide contains a biography of Roald Dahl, literature essays, quiz questions, major themes, characters, and a full summary and analysis. The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl is a story about a girl with a magic finger. She lives next door to the Gregg family who like to hunt for fun and this makes her very angry. She doesn’t think it’s right for people to hunt animals for fun and when she gets angry, her finger takes control. Her magic finger has a special lesson in store, but the big problem is not knowing exactly what will happen when she uses it. The Girl with the Magic Finger often lashes out. She can't help it - if she gets mad at an injustice, her finger does something...magical. She did it once to a terrible teacher - with disastrous consequences. She tries her best to avoid using it but sometimes, it just happens. The truth about hunting is more complicated. Hunters keep animal populations down, ensuring their environment continues to thrive through balance. It’s a skilful sport, the meat is often healthier to eat than shop-bought meat and it connects us to our deepest roots as a species. It’s a better alternative to factory farming if you’re going to eat meat, not least as it’s more humane - and I’m certain Dahl was a meat eater too. What a hypocritical stance to take - hunting your own meat is wrong but eating meat killed by others Far Away is better?? Written in 1964 Roald Dahl's 'The Magic Finger' is a lesson well taught through a little girls magical finger. This lovely children's book is illustrated throughout by Quentin Blake.
